About Amass
Amass Studio is the brainchild of designer and technologist Andrew Shum. During his time studying architecture and spatial design at the Royal College of Art, Andrew conceived of Amass as a platform for gathering and amplifying practices that blur the boundaries between sound, space, and objects.
Amass operates simultaneously as gallery, studio, and community hub—an ecosystem where spatial installations converse with sonic experiments, and visitors become co-authors of the work.
We curate exhibitions, residencies, and open workshops that invite artists, engineers, and neighbors alike to prototype new modes of interaction, hack everyday materials, and reimagine how sound can deepen our sense of place and togetherness.
Meet the Founder
Andrew Shum is a designer-technologist with a BS in Computer Science from MIT and an MA in Architecture from the Royal College of Art. At Spotify he prototyped social-listening features before moving to Sotheby’s as Vice President of Data and Innovation Products, where he translated machine-learning insights into curatorial and auction tools.
Across roles he blends code, spatial thinking, and sonic research, exploring how interactive environments can respond to and shape human experience. Andrew leads Amass Studio, cultivating collaborations that merge sound, space, objects, and software to build community-driven, sensorial design for a more resonant future.
